Hands on Art

Hands on Art

This group is aimed at adults with learning disabilities. Most people attending come with support, but we have experienced volunteers able to help with participating in the sessions (although, we cannot provide personal care).

‘Hands on Art’ is exactly that – Hands on! We encourage our participants to use and improve their fine motor skills and dexterity with creativity. Clare, our resident artist, selects projects where people can produce a piece of artwork to take home, for example we have produced calendars and jute bags. We also work with Rhoda Badge, a Speech and Language Therapist who uses music and movement activities – focussing on gentle exercise, role play, group games to improve co-ordination, communication and lots of fun!!

There is a small charge of £5  per session to cover the materials used, we can arrange to charge people from their personal budget where required. We can cater for certain dietary requirements.

We all found out the animal for the year we were born and used stencils and chalk pastels to create images.

Jute Bags

People drew around their own hands and embellished the designs. Darren said he was going to use his to hold his knitting.
